What is the best waterproofing for a concrete roof in Mauritius?
There is no single "best" system: there is the system that suits your slab, its exposure, its falls and its use. Here are the criteria we use to decide on Mauritian concrete roofs.
1. The real condition of the substrate
Sound slab, cracked, tiled, already waterproofed, water-saturated? A damp substrate rules some systems out. Moisture readings drive the choice far more than any product brand.
2. Geometry and detail points
Many upstands, penetrations, corners and plinths? A seamless liquid membrane such as polyurethane covers those details cleanly. A large, simple, well-drained area? A sheet membrane remains relevant.
3. Standing water
Insufficient falls or undersized outlets create permanent puddles. Either a screed to falls is formed, or a system certified for prolonged immersion is used. Ignoring this ruins any waterproofing.
4. Thermal objectives
If the room below the slab is unbearable in the afternoon, waterproofing alone will not be enough. A light reflective finish, or a combined thermal system, addresses watertightness and comfort in one intervention.
5. The warranty, and what it covers
A warranty only has value if the system, the applied thickness and the preparation are written down. We issue a detailed specification and a site photo report: that is what makes the warranty enforceable.
- Written specification before works
- Thickness checks and photo report
- Warranty conditions handed to the client
Frequently asked questions
What is the best waterproofing in Mauritius?
The one that matches the substrate and its exposure. On a complex concrete slab, a seamless liquid membrane is often the best durability/maintenance compromise; on metal or for targeted repairs, other systems fit better.
Can a concrete roof that is already tiled be waterproofed?
Yes, with a system designed for application over tiles, after adhesion and moisture checks. Otherwise removal remains the safe route.
How long does concrete roof waterproofing last?
From several years to several decades depending on the system, thickness and outlet maintenance. The expected life is stated in the specification issued before works.
