Pool expansion joints in Mauritius: the number one weak point
A pool losing water with no visible crack is nearly always losing it through its joints: the expansion joint between shell and deck, tile joints, the skimmer-to-wall junction. A badly chosen or badly installed sealant fails within a season.
Why a pool joint fails
The shell, the deck and the ground do not move together: thermal expansion, settlement, water pressure. The joint must absorb that movement permanently while resisting chlorine, salt and UV. An ordinary construction sealant cannot do it.
Choosing the right sealant
You need an elastomeric sealant with high movement capability, permanent immersion performance and chemical resistance to chlorine and salt. In Mauritius, UV resistance matters just as much on the exposed deck side.

Installation makes the difference
Cutting out and fully cleaning the old joint, drying, priming, a correctly sized backer rod to achieve the right width-to-depth ratio, bubble-free application, tooling. Without a backer rod the sealant bonds on three faces and tears at the first movement.
When the joint is not the only issue
If the pool keeps losing water despite new joints, look further: structural cracks, pipework, embedded fittings, the shell's overall waterproofing. We run a water-loss test before proposing any repair.
